Every couple wants to be able to describe their wedding day as smooth and flawless, our wedding day is better described as a rollercoaster of events! The day was off to an amazing start right off the bat and we were on the uphill climb to perfection. Everyone was hanging out by the pool in beautiful Saint George, just relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. I ran off to get all dolled up for my wedding day and when I got back to the house I found my two favorite little girls dressed all in pink with the cutest flower crowns and so excited to surprise me that I now had flower girls! (Now would be a good time to tell you that the wedding was planned to be so simple, this meant no decorations, no flower girls, no one standing up with us at the alter because my best friend/ sister is serving an LDS mission in the Philippines so we are saving the party for when she comes home and Christopher and I are sealed together in the temple) Even though that was not the plan I was over the moon excited that I had perfect flower girls to stand by me on the most important day of my life! Once everyone was dressed it was time to head out to Sand Hollow so I could officially call myself Anissa Boerstra (which still sounds weird haha) When we arrived to our ceremony location we were greeted by a load of beach bums, campers, and partiers in the water. My first thought was “can these people not read?!” because the whole beach was plastered with signs that the area was reserved for a wedding, OUR WEDDING! At this point there was nothing we could do to ensure a flawless, and drama free go of it, so we did what any determined, and madly in love couple would do! We went around to inform people that in fact the area had been reserved ahead of time. Most people left without much incident, however the rambunctious lot in the water were determined to stay.
As everyone was pulling away this big red truck got himself and his trailer stuck in the sand right where we wanted to get married and you can only guess what happened after that… Yupp, that trailer sat right there in the sand while we got married but, that was only the start! At this point my awesome mom and aunts set up the beach with props they brought, which was another awesome surprise that I was expecting but was so grateful for! Everyone was in place and ready for the big moment, the music starts and my dad walked me down the aisle to the man that I’m going to spend the rest of my life with. He was standing there with a bright smile on his face, grinning from ear to ear. The ceremony started, and we were standing together looking eye to eye, and the officiator started, and right off the bat she botched the pronunciation of my name! Christopher corrected her after a few times, but it just wasn’t sinking in. Then the unthinkable happened!!! I FORGOT CHRISTOPHER’S RING IN THE CAR!! With a panicked look in my eyes I looked at my mom and told her I forgot the ring in the car and she went running through the sand with my uncle to find it. At this point everyone including Christopher and I were distracted, people even started taking rings off their own fingers that we could use. Christopher being the smart man that he is had had enough of the madness and called a redo (thank goodness) I walked my butt back down the aisle, recovered missing ring and we started over. You’ll be happy to hear that the second go around was much better! After we were pronounced man and wife and I got to kiss my hot new husband there was one more surprise that was probably my favorite one of all. My little brother Chaz got up and told us that he knew that I wanted a speech but the one he had wasn’t from him… That’s right, my sister was not about to give up the spot as the maid of honor no matter how many miles separated us. The tears were flowing from everyone’s eyes while Alyssa dropped some truths on Christopher about how I’m not exactly easy to live with but how lucky we were to have found each other. No matter how crazy our wedding day was it was the perfect mess, we were surrounded by so much love and we got to start our lives as a married couple, which is what it really important! Shout out to Sarah Sorenson Photography for all these awesome photos!
